Official opening of the Maji ya Chumvi – Miritini Road
The Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) arranged for the President to officially open the Maji ya Chumvi Road on 11 August 2009.
The 35 kilometre road is part of the Northern Corridor Transport Improvement Project funded by and the Government of Kenya and the Nordic Development Fund. Five kilometres of the 7m wide with 2m wide shoulders road are dual carriageway Additional amenities in the project include truck lay-byes and service roads at Mariakani. The design lifespan of the carriageway is about 15 years with regular periodic maintenance interventions.
TThe contractor was China Road & Bridge Corporation.
